Playback
Range
Same as Output - Enabling this option will use the Output range for cache playback.
Play From - This value is an output files offset. For example, if you set it to 5, the output will start playing from the 5th computed frame of the simulation (the first 4 will be skipped).
Play To - This value defines output files end frame. If it is shorter than the number of all computed frames, all the remaining frames will be skipped.
Any set of output frames that are clipped with Play From and Play To define a segment.
Start Frame - FumeFX will not play output until 3ds Max`s frame number reaches this value. Use this to synchronize a FumeFX segment within a 3ds Max animation.
Before/After Frame settings define the behavior of the animation before and after the segment. Click on the button to choose from the following list of types:
None - If this is chosen, no behavior information is selected.
Start Frame - This holds the first frame of the segment.
End Frame - This holds the last frame of the segment.
Cycle - This repeats the segment.
PingPong - This repeats the segment, first forward, then backward.
Cache
Memory Cache - Enables the playback RAM cache. Once turned on, frames that have been loaded and processed (including any Fast Up - Res or Post Load Retime result, see below) are kept in system memory. Scrubbing back to a frame that is already in memory serves it instantly, skipping the disk load and any reprocessing. The cache is cleared automatically whenever a new simulation starts or a Retimer bake begins, so it never competes with them for memory.
Max Memory % - The percentage of total system RAM the Memory Cache is allowed to use (default 25, range 0???90). As the cache fills toward this budget, the frames farthest from the frame you are currently viewing are discarded first to make room for new ones. Frames cached under different Post Load settings (for example, with and without Fast Up-Res) are kept separately, but all of them share this same memory budget.
Open VDB Channels ??? The Assign button opens the VDB channel assignment dialog, so channels can be re-assigned without going through the FumeFX menu. FumeFX also remembers the channel assignment when the same cache file is selected again.
VDB Y-Up ??? Enable this option if importing caches from applications such as Houdini that use Y axis as ???up??? vector.
