7.1

Released on 6.October.2025

New Features and Improvements

- FumeFX: Added a completely new RenderWarps algorithm optimized for standard 3ds Max modifiers such as Bend, Taper, Twist, Skew, and Stretch. This new approach delivers noticeably sharper and more detailed results while requiring only a fraction of the computation time - approximately five times faster than the previous algorithm. For modifiers like FFD or other deformers, the previous sampling-based algorithm is still used. This hybrid system combines the speed and quality benefits of the new method with the compatibility of the older approach where necessary.

FumeFX 7.1 new features video.

- FumeFX: Ability to color code grids and display names of grid in the viewport. The displayed name uses the same color as the FumeFX object`s user-assigned color, making it easy to visually associate the label with the corresponding simulation grid. This color is also displayed in the FumeFX floating dialog, making it easier to visually link the dialog with the corresponding simulation grid. Clicking this button also selects the FumeFX object that created the dialog and displays the dialog in the command panel.

- FumeFX: Added Y-Up option for importing .vdb caches from other application.

- FumeFX: When loading third-party VDB caches, channel names are automatically populated in the list, eliminating the need for manual assignment by the user.

- FumeFX: Hide Grid display option is now available in both display modes.

- FumeFX: Voxel Data Display added option to display cached color.

- FumeFX: Cache output path format is now more flexible, allowing different separators between the filename and frame number, as well as a user-defined number of frame digits.

- NodeWorks: Particle export and Save Cache node added option to export as Alembic Point Cloud along with particle shapes. The export will generate minimal cache files, optimizing the geometry output. The exported Alembic files can be loaded inside the Houdini directly.

- NodeWorks: Load Caches node added support for Alembic .abc point cloud import. This allows users to load particles from applications such as Houdini or LiquiGen.

- NodeWorks: Extrude node added option to extrude along Vertex Nomal and custom Vector as well as new MaterialID options.

- NodeWorks: Dialog status bar text to turn red when output message is of error type.

- PartLoad: Significant speed up of point display with support for particle color.

- PartLoad: Added support for Alembic .abc point cloud import along with the option for Y-Up.

- PartLoad: Added support for path variables. s

- FumeFX Wind: Added animatable Active checkbox to easily switch it on and off.

Fixes

- FumeFX: Importing Embergen or Houdini .vdb simuations would cause grids shifting during the playback.

- FumeFX: 3ds max select mode could remain active when authorization dialog opens. Only shift-TAB could bring dialog back to focus.

- FumeFX: Missing viewport update when RenderWarps deformer was added/removed or enabled/disabled.

- FumeFX: Retimer didn't properly use the cache Playback options.

- FumeFX: In certain situations VDB caching can create very large files. With this update, those caches will be smaller.

- FumeFX: Stopping PostPocessing while baking RenderWarps could result in partial data being transformed and written do disk.

- FumeFX: Crash when applying RenderWarps to an empty cache.

- FumeFX: In some cases Voxel Data display automatic ranges would compute wrong ranges.

- FumeFX: When rendering Wavelet or Post caches with Arnold, the first frame of the sequence will be skipped.

- NodeWorks: FumeFX Grid node can now access FumeFX grid data at any time, not just during FumeFX simulation.

- NodeWorks: FumeFX Grid Info node would automatically restart the NodeWorks simulation whenever a FumeFX parameter is modified.

- NodeWorks: wxWidgets error can pop up when license does not exist and NodeWorks UI gets opened.

- NodeWorks: Load Particle Cache node crash when no particles were loaded and node has outputs connected.

- NodeWorks: Save Particle Cache node can crash on node creation.

- NodeWorks: Ocean Spectrum node can crash on copy/paste.

- NodeWorks: Changing 3ds max forces parameters using 3ds max Forces node didn`t restart the simulation.

- NodeWorks: Changing FumeFX Wind parameters using FumeFX Forces node didn`t restart the simulation.

- NodeWorks: Extrude node crash.

- NodeWorks: Memory caching could skip restoring particle MaterialID.

- NodeWorks: When merged into another project, main dialog stopped working until scene is saved and reloaded.

- NodeWorks: Drag-create Spline Force node from the PhysX pin didn`t switch its mode to PhysX.
