Arnold/Redshift Volume Shader

The FumeFX Arnold/Redshift Volume is very similar in functionality to the Volume Object for Arnold and Redshift. It is actually an object that loads FumeFX caches and provides channel access to the Arnold and Redshift shader network. Integration within the FumeFX grid allows intuitive support of all the cache manipulation options.

Arnold/Redshift Volume supports Draft Mode option from the FumeFX dialog which allows faster rendering of FumeFX grid at reduced resolution and lower memory consumption.

Note: Arnold/Redshift volume has limited support for the GPU Viewport Display and volume material representation is just an approximation.

Parameters

Smoke - Select this option if you are using smoke channel inside the Arnold/Redshift Standard Volume material.

Channel - Arnold name: Smoke

Channel - Redshift name: smoke

Sharpen Strength - This is the sharpening strength of the smoke channel.

Sharpen Radius - The radius of the sharpen filter in voxels. Values below 1.0 could produce artifacts unless the Sharpen Strength value is lowered.

Fire/Fuel - Select this option if you are using fire or fuel channel inside the Arnold/ Redshift Standard Volume material.

Channel - Arnold name: Fire

Channel - Arnold name: Fuel

Channel - Redshift name: fuel

Sharpen Strength - This is the sharpening strength of the fire or fuel channel.

Sharpen Radius - The radius of the sharpen filter in voxels. Values below 1.0 could produce artifacts unless the Sharpen Strength value is lowered.

Temperature - Select this option if you are using temperature channel inside the Arnold Standard Volume material. This channel is most commonly used with Black-body shader.

Channel - Arnold name: Temperature

Channel - Redshift name: temperature

Sharpen Strength - This is the sharpening strength of the temperature channel.

Sharpen Radius - The radius of the sharpen filter in voxels. Values below 1.0 could produce artifacts unless the Sharpen Strength value is lowered.

Color - Select this option if you are using color channel inside the Arnold Standard Volume material.

Channel - Arnold name: Color

Channel - Redshift name: color

Velocity - Select this option if you are using velocity channel inside the Arnold Standard Volume material. When Motion Blur is enabled this channel will be loaded automatically.

Channel - Arnold name: Velocity

Create Arnold Standard Volume ??? This option is available only for Arnold renderer and it will setup Standard Volume shader based on user options. If Color option is enabled It will use FumeFX grid color for Standard Volume Scatter color. In the case that Emission Preprocess is enbled it will setup a complete explosion shader.

How to setup new Arnold shader.

  1. From the 3ds max material editor, drag the Arnold Standard Volume material to the FumeFX grid or use the assign to selection button in the MatEdit UI.
  2. Name the Standard Volume Channels according to the FumeFX channel naming convention. Channel names are case sensitive!
  3. Inside the FumeFX' Arnold/Redshift Volume Shader select channels that you will be using.

How to setup new Redshift shader.

  1. From the 3ds max material editor, drag the RS Volume material to the FumeFX grid or use the assign to selection button in the MatEdit UI.
  2. Name the RS Volume Channels according to the FumeFX channel naming convention.
  3. Inside the FumeFX' Arnold/Redshift Volume Shader select channels that you will be using. This is necessary only if you'll be using Sharpening options. Redshift will automatically load channels that are used by the RS Volume shader.
